Norbu Ngawang

Female, in her twenties. Exact age unknown, but presumed to be twenty (20).

Also known as:

Pupil of Ngawang - By the monks. Nomad of the Yamdrok Tso - A general description used informally and through misunderstanding. Lady Ngawang - Another common misunderstanding by outsiders.

Personality

At first glance Norbu is a lady. Graceful, humble, soft spoken, all traits that her culture demands from a woman if she wishes to fulfil her duties. From her training and time spent with her teacher and the monk, Ngawang she also learnt to be peaceful, to value life, and not to form any worldly attachment. Superficially one would say that Norbu has inherited all of these values. However, the truth is ironically far away.

The woman knows herself to be beautiful. She knows the power a woman can hold over people with her appearance alone, and she is proud of it. Observant as she is Norbu has, underneath the layers of humility, developed and hides a conceited and shrewd personality. One where she tries to get what she wants through deceit and manipulation. Ironically the lessons of humility and frugality have all been lost on her as the woman dreams of riches, sophistication, and class. However, she will never admit to such, as she is much too prideful to admit to her own ego, but also because of a pride and a deep respect towards the monk Ngawang who took her in.

Likes: Luxury, grace, sophistication, fame, etc... You get the gist. Dislikes: Her past, attacks on her pride, traditions.

History

Norbu Ngawang's life started cold. Her mother, most likely a prostitute of sorts, had left her at the entrance of a monastery, hoping that her daughter would lead a better life than she had. Abandoned with nothing but a jade prayer beads clutched inside of her fists the girl was thus taken in as one of the many orphans out. She was given the name Norbu, no surname, as she had no family and thus no family name to honour.

Life was dull within the monastery. To encourage equality between the peers and to discourage any form of attachment to the world they were trained from a young age. With shaved heads their daily lives existed out of chores, meditation, and the education of their philosophy. Things that utterly bored the young female who was yearning for more. Something she didn't know, wasn't aware of, yet. However, this would soon change as a travelling monk by the name of Ngawang visited their place.

Monk Ngawang had visited the monastery in order to find a pupil. A disciple of sorts as he was reaching an old age and hoped that someone would carry on his legacy. His eyes had been set on taking in a young boy, but something about the look in Norbu's eyes had pulled him in. It was with his visit that the girl realised the power that she held in hands. A power that was widely left ignored and untrained, but a talent that monk Ngawang couldn't ignore. As such plans changed and Norbu was chosen.

From then on her dull life became a little more exciting. Travelling and training with monk Ngawang brought Norbu to places she had before only dared to dream of. However, as she settled down in her current life she started to realise that there was even more that she wanted. Fame, a name. Norbu wanted to become someone. Someone of her own. independently without having to be connected by another. She wished to become a hero of sorts, the main character of her own story.

This yearning was noted by the monk Ngawang who had watched the young girl grow up into a woman. A beautiful one at that who was hiding a darkness within her heart. Knowing that none of his lessons came through the monk thus told Norbu that it was time she set out on her own. To learn the values of life and explore the world by herself. Time had come for her to take her own fate in hands and fulfil whatever destiny there was she was born with. As a parting gift, but also as a reminder of who it was that had taught her Norbu then took on the name of her teacher, setting out into an adventure she wasn't sure of.

Powers

Gravity - Norbu was born with the invisible power that surrounds all. It was the strength that the monk Ngawang saw in the young orphan and trained her in as she became his disciple. However, as she is not to hurt life she has been trained passively in the use of her power. She makes no use of weapons, for she was never trained to fight. Only to train and discipline herself, to meditate and find inner peace. Such is also the source of her power. From focus and meditation Norbu can call upon the magic dwelling within her, releasing them with a spell that are almost alike to a bind.

Spells

"Phar Gzer" - Anti gravitation

Norbu can deactivate that gravitation for a short period of time, causing her opponent to float from the lack of gravitation around. "Phar Gzer", literally translated it means "Away Metal". As if she summons the particles of metal deep in earth to leave the feet of her opponent to make them float and fall.

"Log Yong Gzer" - Heaved gravitation

The opposite of taking away the gravity is to make the gravity concentration on a being stronger. Depending on the amount of concentration and power that Norbu places upon this spell this either completely paralyzes her opponent or at the very least slows them down for another short period. Of course the power of this spell is also connected to the size and strength of her own opponent. The bigger they are the harder it becomes to push them down.

"Then pa" - Positive pole

Magnets have two poles, positive and negative, these attract each other and pull together. Norbu can simulate this phenomena with the help of her magic. "Then Pa" which means "Pull", with the help of this spell Norbu can pull and attract loose objects and people towards her, solid objects such as a wall can't be moved around and thus pulls Norbu towards the object when she performs the spell.

"Sbud rgyag brkyab" - Negative pole

The exact opposite happens here, Norbu can push away, reject, objects of people around her with this spell. Again with loose objects and people it are they who are pushed away, sending them into air with a force the same as they used to come at her while solid objects will push Norbu away from a wall or a house.

Skills

Martial arts - Taught by the monks inside of the temples and by the monk Ngawang. It is to maintain their physique and keep the balance of their body and soul. The monks believe that the soul represents the heavens and the body the earth, and that with a tainted body the heavens will fill itself with poison and a poisoned soul breaks down the earth, which then decays. To this base Norbu was trained as well, to maintain her physique, not to fight and defend herself, that is only a lesser priority for monks always come in peace.

Weaknesses: Lack of weapons, passivity, her pride Equipment: Beads of jade, silken money bag, wooden Hairpin
