Character Information:
In the perils of war the biggest victims are the children. Often lost without a home or shelter to return to, sometimes even robbed from a family life. It is also in these same streets that the human patience and kindness is tested to its greatest limits. Zao was one of those innocent lives that would have been lost if it wasn't for the grace of another. Swaddled in nothing more than some fine robes to keep his body warm the young man was found and raised on the streets without even a name of his own. Though the man who had picked him up only saw him as an investment for later.
The name Zao Gao was given to the male in his boyhood. Quick to anger the male often found himself in a scuffle with his peers. It was for his temper that he was named Zao Gao, as chaos and fights always erupted around him with his irate behaviour. Zao hated the world, the people that only left him to live with the few scraps thrown at him, for being sneered at for his own misfortune that he had no hand in. He stole, he fought, he gambled, he deceived, all for the sake of survival.
The man that had taken him in was no better but better than most. He ran a small group of rats like Zao who brought together the income by fighting, by stealing and deceiving. They were a tight-knit group of war victims ranging from all ages with no better idea than to defy order to come by. When the leader got caught he thus pleaded guilty, knowing that there was no way for him to escape. The man that was closest to a father-figure to Zao put down his head and pleaded for the boys he had taken in, vowing for their strength and diligence if just given a chance.
It was thus how their leader lost his head while the rest of the boys were sent into the army. Zao was a mere boy back then, no older than thirteen and the army was the first group of strict order and organisation he had ever encountered.
Naturally the new environment was difficult for Zao to adjust in. Though his heart was still full of hate the man knew that there was no use in putting his leader's efforts to waste. Years passed by and Zao and his brothers proved themselves indeed to be capable soldiers. Just in time, as yet another war was come to pass.
